Jew Wishes On: Monday Musings – October 5, 2009

I have had a busy few days, as I am sure most of you have had. Within the time constraints of the days, I did manage to finish a book or two or three. Reviews will be forthcoming.

The nights are turning cooler, and autumn tones are becoming more pronounced. Everywhere I turn, I see farmers gathering their crops, harvest time has begun. I love driving by and seeing the huge bales of hay sitting in the fields of farmland. There is something soothing and serene about them.

Here are some recent book purchases I have made:

In America, by Susan Sontag

The Complete Stories
, by Bernard Malamud

The Fixer
, by Bernard Malamud

Betraying Spinoza: The Renegade Jew Who Gave Us Modernity, by Rebecca Newberger Goldstein

  1. I have that Susa Sontag book (amongst many others). Its wonderful.

    • Rachel: I’m glad you think the book is wonderful. It looked that way to me from the cover.

  2. The Spinoza book looked especially interesting (Rebecca Goldstein used to live in this area, in New Jersey). As I sometimes do on Amazon, I read the negative reviews first. Look forward to hearing what you have to say! Maybe I’ll actually read the book at some point.

Moadim L’Simcha! Enjoy the rest of the holidays.

    • Leora: I thought the book looked interesting, and have been eyeing it for a while.

The same to you and your family!

  3. Great list(s) and pics!

    • Thanks, Ilana.
