The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) is closed today in honor of Officer Stephen Tyrone Johns, who was murdered yesterday, in the line of duty. The paragraph below, is quoted directly from the USHMM’s website.
“There are no words to express our grief and shock over today’s events at the Museum, which took the life of Officer Stephen Tyrone Johns. Officer Johns, who died heroically in the line of duty, served on the Museum’s security staff for six years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Johns’s family. We have made the decision to close the Museum Thursday, June 11, in honor of Officer Johns and our flags will be flown at half mast in his memory.”
~~~~~~
I have made the decision not to post anything else, today.
May Officer Johns’ family find the strength to move through this horrific ordeal. May his memory be for a loving blessing.
The two black and white photographs of the USHMM were taken by me last year. The photograph of Officer Johns is the Copyright of the USHMM.
His poor family. I don’t suppose anyone thought of security guard as being a high risk job.
I so appreciate the security guard at my children’s (Jewish) school.
Leora: He apparently leaves behind an 11-year old son, a new wife, and his parents…
I’m sure you do appreciate the security guard at the school.
This is so upsetting that there are crazy people out there. I have friends that were at the holocaust museum in Washington D.C. that weekend. She told me that the security guard that checked her bags the whole weekend was the one that was killed. She told me he was a very nice gentleman. She was there doing a book signing for her book.
