Jew Wishes On: Home Again

I’ve been away since December 21st, visiting family. Family is what it is all about, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year. I am back home, now.

It was a joy to see two of my three granddaughters! Emily is my 19-month old granddaughter, and Melody is 14.

I loved watching Emily run, dance, sing, talk and have pretend conversations with her baby doll and her monkey. She kept taking monkey’s temperature with her digital thermometer, and fed him and gave him big kisses and hugs. As you can tell, he is a comfort to her, and he is her bedtime companion. I gave her the monkey when she was born. It had been 7 months since I had seen her, and she was like a different person with all of her activeness. She is my daughter and son-in-law’s daughter.

She loved looking at the Menorah being lit, and I taught her to say the word “Menorah”. It was a first for her, and it made me feel good that I was able to teach her how to say a word, and especially one relating to Judaism. She repeated it after me on the first go! She kept staring at the Menorah and lit candles. It was fun to watch her open her Hanukkah gifts, and she had fun tearing the wrapping paper. She even cleaned up after herself and threw the paper in the trash can. It was too cute.

Melody is a sweet beauty, and at 14 she loves reading, track, music, dancing and playing the piano. She loves to pose and make funny faces. She is one of my son’s two daughters. She is filled with laughter and funny jokes, and she loves to read fantasy and science-fiction.

I enjoyed my time with my family, and it was very difficult to leave. I am not good at leaving loved ones. Airports and parting are difficult for me.

I bought a few books while I was away, and will write more about them tomorrow.
