Here it is Thanksgiving morning, and I am between activities. I am watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV, which is a tradition carried over from my own childhood.
In between the parade, I am chopping goodies for my turkey stuffing. I am including matzohs in my stuffing (my Jewish family tradition), preparing one fourth of it with crushed matzohs and the other three fourths with whole wheat bread, along with dates, celery, onion, cranberries, walnuts, other goodies I think of along the way, and with several spices.
I made biscuits with chopped dates to have with my morning coffee. If I do say so myself, they are delicious!
Oh my, James Taylor is in the parade and he just sang a beautiful verison of the song “America the Beautiful”, lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates, and melody by Samuel Ward. It’s a fitting song for the occasion, and sung by him makes it extra special.
Here’s an interesting article regarding “Applying Jewish Law to Turkey Day“
It’s time for me to do other things.
Give thanks! Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your day!

Ilana-Davita…here is the recipe:
You can use both dates and cranberries, just cut the amount in half. This morning, I used just dates.
2 /14 cups of sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powerd
4 tbsp of butter or margarine, or shortening. I use margarine.
1/4 tsp. salt (I don’t like salt so use very little, but the normal amount would be about 1/2 tsp.)
4 oz chopped dates (more or less to taste)
4 oz dried cranberries (more or less to taste)
2/3 to 3/4 cup of milk, I use 2/3 initially and add a bit as I go along for a soft dough
Sift flour one time, add all the ingredients except the margarine and milk, sift once more.
Add milk, and slowly stir until you have a soft dough. Do not knead.
I use a greased cupcake/muffin tin and drop the mixture into the individual openings by spoonfuls (enough for 9-12 biscuits, depending on desired size. Bake 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
You can make scones or drop biscuits, by dropping the mixture on a greased cookie sheet…approximately 12 small biscuits or make 6 large biscuits. Bake 8-10 minutes, for larger biscuits about 2 minutes longer.
I made these from scratch, this morning. But, normally I use Bisquick…and avoid adding the margarine, baking powder, etc., and just add my milk and dates and/or cranberries.

Thanks a lot. I think I’d use only dates.
