Jew Wishes On: Studs Terkel Dead at 96

Historian, actor, radio host, activist, author, Louis “Studs” Terkel died today at the age of 96.  He was born in New York City to Russian Jewish parents.  Terkel’s father was a tailor, and his mother performed in a circus.  His parents moved to Chicago, IL, when he was about eight years old, where he remained for most of his life.

Dan Terkell said his father died at home, and described his death as “peaceful, no agony.  This is what he wanted.”

You can read about his life, here.  The Studs Terkel article is very touching, read it through to the end.

He was a man of greatness, and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his book “The Good War”.  His books are astounding.  One of my favorites is “Will the Circle Be Unbroken“?  His  book, “P.S.:  Further Thoughts From a Lifetime of Listening” comes out in paperback November 3rd.

Studs Terkel’s voice will be missed.

May his memory be for a loving blessing.

Jew Wishes…Peace to you all.
