Jew Wishes On: Blackmore Park In World War Two

Blackmore Park In World War Two, by Fran and Martin Collins, is an excellent historical book, and one in a series of books, regarding two U.S. Army bases located at Blackmore Park, Malvern, England. The two bases were built in 1943.

U.S. military medical personnel were stationed there until September 1945. My father was one of the Army medical personnel who was initially stationed there with the 93rd General Hospital, before he went on to Italy and Germany. I had been searching for years for information on the 93rd General Hospital, and about two months ago, came across Martin and Frances Collins’ website.

I couldn’t believe my eyes! After years of research, there before me, on my monitor, was a blurb about a new book that was about to be published by Fran and Martin Collins! It detailed how historical accountings regarding the 93rd General Hospital was being incorporated into the book…”Blackmore Park In World War Two“, along with information on the 19th General Hospital, the 155th General Hospital, the 12th Hospital Center, and so much more.

I didn’t waste any time in emailing the authors, and when hearing back from them, I let them know that I wanted to pre-order the book. I received a signed copy of “Blackmore Park In World War Two” at the end of May.

As the daughter of one of the many military personnel stationed at Blackmore Park, I can’t say enough about the book and its invaluable contents. My father’s military records, along with the records of thousands of others who participated in World War II, were destroyed in a huge fire in the National Archives in Page, Missouri, back in the 1970s. Finding any information on him and/or his unit has been extremely tedious and difficult. I had very little in the way of documentation other than the fact he was part of the 93rd General Hospital, and from there went on to serve in the European Theater of Operations. “Blackmore Park In World War Two” added, immensely, to the small amount of information I had.

I am extremely delighted with the written details, numerous photographs and overall historical value of the book, and I have nothing but extreme admiration and respect for the authors. I can’t say enough about the book, and applaud Fran and Martin Collins for their endeavors, their research, and their untiring goal to get the contents organized so “Blackmore Park in World War Two” could be published. I highly recommend it to everyone, and feel it is of extreme historical value in documenting the daily life and activities of those who were stationed there, along with the English citizens who worked on the base, and the residents of the surrounding communities.

The personal accountings, photographs and documents are excellent resources for those interested in knowledge about the impact that the U.S. medical personnel and the wounded had on Malvern, during World War II. It is an excellent book that gives little-known information about the U.S. Medical personnel and their major contributions during World War II. Bravo to Fran and Martin Collins for their excellent gift to the world!

Martin and Frances reside in England, and would love to hear from anybody who was stationed in the region and who has stories or photographs they would like to share“. You can contact them on their website.
