Rose Auslander was a Jewish poet. She was born May 11, 1901 in Czernowitz and died January 3, 1988 at the age of 70, in Dusseldorf. She wrote many volumes of works, and one of them is Mother Tongue: Selected Poems.
During World War II she went into hiding with her mother in a cellar, in the Czernowitz ghetto. While there she wrote many poems. Writing was a way of life for her and she wrote to feel alive, to stay alive.
