There’s a watch tower at Auschwitz, standing dark, frigid and ominous between bricks, wood and barbed wire. It is a reminder of those once within its sight.
Pine trees in the background stand watch, looming over the tower, as if to say, “you can’t keep us in…our spirits soar above your watchful eyes… ashes cling to branches like winter snow…thousands of pounds of human dust blanket the ground nourishing roots…ash circles create the tracks within our trunks…aged bark all shapes and sizes……essences of lives lost…the cold of winter…the icicles are but another frigid form…silence resounds…is deafening…in unison we sing out..our voices and our BEING will not be held back….our frame inhales exhales…our leaves and branches expand…reach upward toward another realm…the sighs of the murdered…the universe…echo…we are free now…you can’t keep us in…our spirits soar above your watchful eyes…you can’t contain us…our memories hover…linger in the air…a constant reminder.”
